Chillicothe to get a street railway in 1888

From The Files June 15 1888 notes Chillicothe plans a street railway amid a flood of prices and local events. Market quotes for corn oats wheat butter eggs hogs and other goods mix with social items including settlers picnic camping plans and school staff changes. A camp party travels toward the Michigan pine woods while a new two story brick store is announced for Brimfield and a gymnasium rises in Yates City.

She was Brimfield Township High School valedictorian class of 1934 and will teach next year at Williamsfield High School. Celebration of 4th Interests Old and Young

Firemen plan a July 4th celebration in the school park with music dancing a band concert ball games and a fireworks display from 1 00 p m to 1 00 a m. The program includes a merry go round corn game and various concessions run by local cooks at the eating stand promising nourishment and thrills for all ages.

4-H Laura Items Girle picnic breakfast in pasture

Laura Items Girle 4-H held a Wednesday June 1 picnic breakfast in Ruth Anon Jaques pasture. Menu included drop biscuits fried eggs bacon fruit and bacon. Each girl cooked her own meal. The group also hiked briefly before breakfast with ten members and a leader present. Jean Campbell, reporter.

Bell School Alumni Picnic Date Set for June 19

The seventh annual Bell school alumni picnic is scheduled for Sunday June 19. A basket dinner will be served at noon followed by a program. All former pupils teachers and patrons are invited to attend this reunion. Mr Ida Graves is the teacher.

Old Settlers Meet For Organization

An organization meeting of the Old Settlers Association will be held at the Johnson Archor Store on Friday evening June 17 at 7 30. Officers for the year will be elected and all interested in the Old Settler picnic are urged to attend.

Merle Thorpe To Address Publishers National Meet

Merle Thorpe, editor of the nations leading business magazine, will headline the National Editorial association program at White Sulphur Springs West Virginia next week. A Brimfield native, Thorpe was briefly entertained here and toured the village’s muddy streets in search of his old home.

4H Judging Contest At Barrett Farm

Peoria county 4 H judging event at Barrett Farm near Laura on Monday June 27 begins at 8 a m with EK T Robbins of the College of Agriculture assigning animals for two classes each of horses beef cattle sheep and hogs. Top three per club form a team, first and second advance to the Urbana state contest August 1.

Rose Tea Brings Toulon Methodist Ladies Together

Eighteen ladies of the Methodist church attended a Rose Tea hosted by the Toulon Methodist church group on Friday. They were presented with a display of flowers and light refreshments in a cordial gathering honoring guests and members.

Viola Harty Married In Mt Pleasant Ceremony

A June wedding took place Thursday morning June 9 at St Alphonses church Mt Pleasant Iowa uniting Viola Harty and Louis Watters. The Rev Guilbers Watters read the nuptial mass and family members attended. After the ceremony a wedding reception followed at Yellow Lantern Tea Room and the couple left for a brief honeymoon before settling on a Pleasant Lawn area farm.

Mrs Clarence Maher 41 former Peoria county school teacher wife of Clarence Maher Route 104 East Peoria died at 845 p m Monday in Methodist hospital after a year of illness She was born January 20 1897 in Peoria She taught in Peoria county schools after Bradley Polytechnic Institute and normal school married July 10 1922 in Peoria The couple lived in Chicago 13 years and Crom Cr velvet Creve Coeur Surviving husband two sons William and Clarence Maher a sister Mrs Alice Seffert Pekin Two other children preceded her in death Memorial services at 130 p m today in Wilton mortuary chapel interment Springdale cemetery.

Mrs Elmer Hankler Dies in Bloomington Hospital

Mrs Elmer Hankler of Colfax died Tuesday afternoon at Brokaw hospital in Bloomington. Funeral services will be Friday at 3 at Deer Creek Methodist church with burial in Washington. Born August 28 1904 to Emmer and Laura Ramsey of Deer Creek she married Elmer Hankler September 1 1934. They have a baby son Darwin Dean born last Friday. Mr Hankler formerly farmed east of Brimfield. Herold Warlan and family were summoned to Bloomington by the death of Mrs Elmer Hankler.
