Lovits Jubilee organists cited in Wyoming event report

From The Files June 2 1888 notes Clem Fraser and Alta Barnes officiated as organists at the Lovits Jubilee in Wyoming. It also records local agriculture prices and incidents including a Canada thistle bloom on Mrs Brooks farm east of town and various farm goods prices for June 30 1898.

RNA Convention in Princeville Today

The Princeville camp of Royal Neighbors of America hosts the annual county convention with Supreme Recorder Erna M. Barthel as principal speaker. Nineteen county camps attend, including seven from Peoria and others from Pottstown Brimfield Elmwood Tripoli Ginsford Hanna City Princeville Kickapoo Dunlap Laura Chillicothe Limestone. Dunlap 4-H Team Wins County Livestock Judging Contest

The Dunlap 4-H club judging team won the county live stock contest near Laagra and will represent Peoria county in state contests. Members Ralph Frye Eugene Bush and William Heinz led the team with Billy Shaffer Donald Bridson and Billy Jones second for Laura. Other teams included Trivoli Princeville Chillicothe Elmwood and Concord.

Laura Winners 4-H Club Meets for Potluck and Tours

The Laura Winners 4 H club met June 27 at leader W W Jones home with 30 of 43 members present. They planned a pot luck supper at Lake S orev for June 28 and an all day tour on July 7 meeting at 9 00 am at the Barrett home. Members toured projects followed by a pot luck dinner in Jaques pasture and songs with refreshments. Next meeting set for July 11 at Chalmer Catton home. County judging contest at Barretts Monday had Billy Shaffer second highest with 324 of 400. other Laura members include Donald Bridson 302 Billy Jones 302 and Virgil Collins 291 as alternate.

Pitts Buried in California After Long Illness

Friends here mourn the death of B. L. Pitts husband of Kathryn Fisher. He died in Los Angeles California on June 1 1938 at 11 55 p m after a period of poor health and was buried with Masonic rites on June 4 at 9 a m after working up to three days before his death.

Old Settlers Elect Officers At Plano Picnic

At a called Old Settlers meeting the officers were returned with Dr. R. B. Roberts as president and Donald Best as vice president. The treasurer reported 100.87 on hand, committees were named for Finance, Program, Amusement, Advertising, Grounds and Wiring, Band, Seats and Stands, Closing Streets, Policing Grounds, Decorating, and Everett Cation. The group set a meeting for Monday July 11, 1938 with D. H. Johnson as secretary.

Village Board Plans To Oil Streets

The village board plans to oil gravel streets with $850 gas tax funds to coat about 26 blocks, based on figures from towns using the light oil method. Earl Bibbs becomes owner and operator of a meat market in France ville, buying the market long operated by E. E. Bammer who retires due to ill health.

Brimfield Memoir From Captain Wm. Ewing Recalls Ocean Life

Capt Wm Ewing recalls Brimfield days and a 49 year voyage to Oregon. He describes starting sea life at 13 in Oregon, crabbing and deep sea fishing, surviving waves and wrecks, and a 23 year career saving 23 people.
