The Brimfield band to play concerts every Saturday. The second annual Citizens Temperance League meeting held at the Methodist church. Bids for a new shop yard fence ranged 8345 to 370 Pred Archer awarded contract. Local store notes and commodity prices appear amid scattered community items.
The Illinois Agricultural Association safety reports show several avoidable farm accidents including a farmer severely cut by a buzz saw, a kitchen kerosene fire causing a fatal blaze, and a tractor overturn injuring a young man. The notes emphasize that mishaps from grain grinders to haylofts are common but preventable if people decide to avoid them.
A meeting about a cold storage locker will be held at the Grange Hall in Laura Wharaday on June at 8 p m. Residents interested in obtaining a cold storage locker for the community are urged to attend.
Peoria County plans its annual commencement exercises on Saturday June 10 1939 at Woodruff High School 1814 North Perry Avenue Peoria The program includes student awards and messages from school officials with ceremonies set for 1:00 p.m. at Mrs Batesii writes Thursday June 15-1.

Princeville invites neighbors to celebrate the third annual Peony Day on Sunday June 4. The Princeville school band performs at 2 PM in the village park while seven acres of about 250 peony varieties bloom. A million beds promise free bloom as Kiwanis Club sponsors a pleasant afternoon of music and beauty.
The gym was filled as the largest ever graduating class walked the stage. Seven boys and twenty two girls entered to Pomp and Circumstance played by Miss Mathryn Lindstrom. Music featured girls trio mixed ensemble and high school band, baritone Joe Hlundy, a Ray Montgomery dress display, and Dr Roy B Roberts presented diplomas.
The American Legion council in Glasford will meet June 7 1939 at 7 30 p m in Glasford High School. Only members attend the Strawberry Festival and the last meeting of the year is noted. The annual picnic is set for July 24 at Bradley Park in Peoria.

Edward Auten’s 100th birthday celebrated at a family dinner with many attendees. Improvement Society met at Purcell home with devotionals led by Gladys Lynn and a book-collecting session by Susa Welch. Lydia Pursell announced festival committees for Thursday night June 1. Attendees included Camp, Wycoff, Elva, Kelusman, Detta Lou Shaffely, Eleanor Moore, Marvy Mott, Mary Lou Carter, Ruth Oakes. Hostesses Lola Pursell, Rath Oakes, and Rath Carter served refreshments.
Last week BL Oakes and Trasser Tucker visited Peoria. Mrs Robert Carter remained hospitalized in Galesburg. Mrs Orville Tucker and Mrs Kelley helped their daughter and niece Mrs Clyde Carter wallpaper last week. Mrs Hubert Oakes expecting parental visit from James Whyte and sister Jeasie from Elgin this Saturday. Dan McCoy, Mr and Mrs Harry Peed and Hubert Oakes attended the funeral for Aobert Brdsen at Prisacehilie Thursday. Edward Anton Jr, Miss Grace Chapman of Princeville, Mrs Richard son and Mrs Webber of Lowell, Maza visited L Gakes and S A Helloge last week. The Guild of the Rimwood Presbyterian church held their monthly party at the house of Sir W B Clark Tuesday evening. The assisting hostesses.

Mr and Mrs Joes Stargel near Boulon were callers in town Wednesday morning. Mrs and Mrs Ira Baldwin and two sons of Ranson spent Sunday here visiting relatives. Mr and Mrs Wm Clinch and Marianne of Oak Hill spent Sunday at the George Moore home. Mr and Mrs Johanie Smith and Baby spent Wednesday evening at the Ott Mosher home near Williamsfield. Mrs Wilbur Symmonds and son renewed to Peoria Sunday after spending last week with Mrs Mary Miller. Mrs Cecil Miller, Mrs Mary Miller and Mrs Wilbur Symmonds and son spent Tuesday morning in Galesburg. Mrs Mae EB Reed and Dorothy of Elmwood and Charles Reed of Chicago called at the James Kemper and Harley feed home. Mr and Mrs Fred Steinman drove Satuday evening and Draught her daughter Mrs Paul Burgess and son home with them w spend the week end. Mrs J C Whittaker, Mrs Zella Powers and Bob Miller drove to Champaign to visit Shannon Powers Weapes day afternoon returning home Thurs. Mrs W B Beauchamp, Mrs Corliss Laisure and four children drove to Berne Indiana Saturday morning for a visit over Decoration Day. Miss Beauchamp intends to remain for a long while. Leigh Beamer of Des Moines came to the home of his sister Mrs Don Webster Tuesday and returned Friday taking Mrs Webster, Mrs Gerald Webster of La Fayette and Miss Hazel Webster of West Jersey back with him to attend graduation exercises held above the 262h. John Catten fell victim to a clever pickpocket last Wednesday evening in the yard of the McGartney home. A car with a Chevrolet plate from Mississippi stopped, a man approached, and the travelers—a man, a woman and two children—alighted. Catton lost $10 from his pocket.
Baward Auten Sr a longtime Pinckneyville resident in Peoria County marked his 100th birthday at home. Born May 27 1939 in a log cabin on Kickapoo Creek seven miles south of Princeville he is the oldest living Union College alum from Schenectady NY and Harvard Law School graduate. Eight surviving children joined him for the celebration.
William J. Giermeier died at his home Friday at 8 am. Born Sept 1 1873 in Metamora he married Mary Katherine Carroll in 1900. He and his wife lived in Peoria nine years. Survived by wife four daughters Mrs Livingston Mrs Warrick Ruth Hiermeier of Peoria and Helen Heinz of Princeville. Burial in St Mary's cemetery.
Mrs Albert D McCoy died Thursday night May 25 at her Glen dale home after long illness since her husband’s death in 1938. Loretta J Reed born November 10 1863 in French Grove daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Reed married Feb 13 1884 to Albert D McCoy. four children Cecil Leta Sharleston Dun Alice and John J survive with siblings Emma V Carter James E and Lester H of Peoria and others. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon.
Perfect weather for Decoration Day out door exercises at the soldiers' lot in the cemetery. The event drew many from out of town and featured Rev Elmer Palmer of Bartonville delivering the address, which was well received by all attendees.
Mrs Blanche Oakes hosted a Monday afternoon gathering of high school friends at Oak Place in Peoria. The cemetery committee reports the annual fund appeal nearing completion with total contributions of 173.5 dollars to date. Of this amount SNS locally and 65.50 from out of town. The committee is still receiving contributions.
B Kornmeyer reports that at Brimfield Elevator on May 29 eight hundred bushels of corn passed through one staed of one elevator in a half day. This equals 168 wagon loads or a rate of 336 wagons per day. Five loaded and the sixth started in a half day shows fast work.
The French Grove Improvement Society hosts its seventh annual strawberry ice cream and cake festival at the church this Thursday evening. Committees work to ensure a successful early social for the church community. The program features the Coe Southern quartet, Donald Coe and his violin, Mary Collings reading Opens Wider Please, and a vocal duet by Betty and Bertha Carter.
