Elmwood Brimfield unite to hire pastor Rev Mr Johnson

The Presbyterian societies of Elmwood and Brimfield join to employ Reverend John Johnson who will preach on alternate Sundays. December entries note local prices for corn oats wheat butter and eggs across 1888 1908 1918 and 1928, plus community items like a new bridge opening and a bowling alley.

Bake Sale and Bazaar by Lutheran Ladies Aid

The Lutheran Ladies Aid will hold a bake sale and bazaar on Saturday December 10 in the Auto Sales Recomm area. Lunch will be served at noon including hot chili sandwiches coffee and doughnuts. Also featured are pics dreasea chickens aprons fancy work and candy.

Legion Banquet Brings Large Turnout and Events

The first Legion banquet drew a large crowd with members, wives, and out-of-town guests. Sixty five sat for a meal prepared by Legion wives and served by six high school girls under Miss Velma Allens direction. Entertainment featured local children, a program directed by Miss Kathryn Linastrom, and speakers including Father Harrison and Mrs Johnson.

Forney Birds Win Prizes at Peoria Show

The Forney aviary earned multiple prizes at the Peoria bird show held at the Jefferson hotel. They received a third place ribbon for a roeette and cup, four cups for parakeets love birds rice birds and best display, several medals and ribbons, and the award for the most blue ribbons in the event. The best blue ribbons award is a hand painted oil snow scene depicting Glen Oak Park.

Elmwood couple marks 40th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Claude N. Clark of Elmwood celebrated their 40th anniversary with a Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Their children and grandchildren attended the celebration.

Wilmer N Foster of Meadowbrook Farm Dairy Dies

Wilmer N. Foster age 62 owner of Meadowbrook Farm Dairy died at 2 PM Monday at St Francis hospital after a long illness. He lived near Atnea Ind earlier in life, moved to Peoria in 1919, born August 20, 1876 in Robrey Ind. Survived by mother, wife Aryssa Meeker, daughter Helen Shannon of Chicago, sons Harold M Foster of Washington Illinois and Floyd and Charles Foster of Persia, and brother J Lee Boste of Attica. Funeral services conducted at Ziegler-Gonners and Attica home burial in Attica cemetery.

Burns Fatal To Mrs Alma Dawson

Mrs Alma Dawson died about 6 30 Thursday at the home of Tom May south of Oak Hill from burns after her clothing ignited while adding fuel to a kitchen stove. Firefighters drowned out the flames. death came from shock per the coroner's jury verdict. Born January 21 1862 Oak Hill area native, widow of Wm Dawson, mother of Jasper Dawson and three daughters. Surviving grandchildren numbered 20 with 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services were at Patterson funeral home Elmwood with Oak Hill cemetery burial.

Funeral services for Mrs Ferris Rowcliffe held in Princeville

Mrs Ferris Rowcliffe funeral was conducted at the Presbyterian church in Princeville with Rev. L A Smith officiating. Interment followed in Princeville cemetery. Lola Leoline Brown, born February 10 1873 near Rickapoo, died November 30 1938 at her Princeville area home after a year of poor health.

Obituary for Robert D Johnston of Mt. Ayr community

Robert D Johnston born December 16 1868 near Hrimfield died November 27 1938 after an engine pectoris attack. He lived on a farm near Elliston, moved to Kelferton in 1891, then Mt. Ayr in 1921. Survived by wife four daughters four sons twenty three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral in Mt. Ayr with nephews as pallbearers. The Mt. Ayr Record-News notes the community loss of a good citizen and says the Johnston family will be met by older residents at the U. K. Grant farm now owned by Charles Welch.
