In The Files from November 29 3888 Mogs500 various farm notes report B C Tucker harvesting eight acres at roughly 100 bushels per acre while other entries mention corn oats wheat and eggs prices and local happenings including telephones being installed and a parish fundraiser netting about 250 dollars. The piece notes a Springfield connection and a planned Peoria Democratic paper.

Mrs Phares Celebrates 93rd Birthday in Brimfield Township

Clara Phares the region’s oldest living resident marked her 93rd birthday with two gatherings. Daughters Vera Fisher Nelle Carson and Minnie Tennery hosted family at grandson Ralph E Carson’s home for a turkey dinner among 19 guests across four generations. A separate reception by lifelong friend Mrs Hindle drew about 40 attendees. Mrs Phares has a large lineage with six living children nine grandchildren ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Her childhood home, built in 1853 by Curtis Cady, later witnessed her 1865 marriage to Joseph Phares and their 50th anniversary before his 1922 death. A devoted church and community presence, she recalls marvels from carriages to electricity and airplanes as notable during her 93 years.

Fire Destroys Whittaker Home

Fire discovered about 1 30 Tuesday morning completely destroyed the farm home occupied by Mr and Mrs Andrew Whittaker and owned by his father Andy Whittaker The Whitakers were roused by smoke filling the stairway and upper floor The Brimfield Fire Company responded but could not control the blaze Some furnishings were removed from the first floor but nothing from upstairs or the kitchen was saved The family slept on the first floor and had trouble rousing their helper Bildon Sentman who escaped via an upstairs window and the porch roof They thank Brimfield Fire Company and neighbors who helped Monday night

A D McCoy died at his Glendale home following illness that began in July. Born September 9 1855 at French Grove he was the son of John A and Matilda Davis McCoy. His widow Loretta J Reed and children Cecil Leta John J and Alice survive in Glendale. One sister Matilda Ireland also lives there. Father once served Millbrook township as supervisor.
