Farmington and Elmwood fall festival dates listed

Calendar notes Farmington and Elmwood host fall events with Aggest on August 30 31 and August 3 September 1 2 respectively. On September 1 a memorial service will be held at the old stone chapel of Jubilee College for Bishop Philander Chase who founded the institution in 1835. A virge image sponsored by Grace Episcopal of Galesburg and St Mary's of Knoxville will conclude with this service. The chapel corner was laid in 1839. S. P. Hasselbacher obituary in Yates City Elmwood Gazette

Simon Peter Hasselbacher died at 7 16 Tuesday morning at Mitchell Sanatorium Peoria after a stroke. He was 74 born September 25 1864 in Rosefield township Peoria County and longtime Yates City station agent for the C B Q railroad. He married twice and belonged to Elmwood Odd Fellows Rebekahs Woodmen Lodge and other orders. Surviving are his widow and three children from the first marriage, a brother and two sisters. Funeral rites were conducted at the Chamberlain residence with Rev G W Leonard. burial in Yates City cemetery.

Burcham Burgess Matrimony in Davenport Methodist Church

Miss Jean Burcham and Donald Burgess of Macon were wed Saturday afternoon August 19 in Davenport Iowa by Rev J A Young. Opal Burcham was bridesmaid Bernard German served as best man and Mr and Mrs Robert Solienberger attended. A wedding dinner followed at the bride's home. The bride wore dragonfly Romaine sheer with red rose corsage. bridesmaid wore poudre blue lace. Mrs Burgess is Lula Burcham's daughter and Brimfield High alumna. Burgess, from Brimfield, graduated in 1937 and works on the family farm.

4-H Stock Exhibits Judged Thursday A M

4 H stock exhibits at the Peoria county club show are judged Thursday morning starting at 8 00. The Elmwood show runs Thursday to Friday with exhibits released at 3 00 p m. Classes include hogs beef calves dairy heifers sheep and poultry. A local committee and county committee oversee the event with sales of feeder calves at 2 30 p m Wednesday September 6 at Peoria stock yards.
