Former Resident Dies At Chicago Home

Mrs Frank McCaughey formerly Elizabeth Collen died suddenly at 2 am Sunday August 6 at her Chicago home after a four hour illness. Born in Brimfield she lived in Chicago over 35 years. Funeral at St Ignatius Church in Chicago. Mt Carmel Cemetery burial. Survived by brother James Cullen and sisters Mrs Ed Aunt Sarah and Anastasia of Kewanee. Wr and Mrs Habearond of Indiana and Mr and Mrs J E Clark and Bobby of Mossville attended. Sunday of the Joe Coyles.

School Opens with Half Day Start for Pupils

School begins with a half day on September 1 for both grade and high school pupils who must report at 9:00 AM for class assignments and book lists. The first full day of classes starts Tuesday, September 5.

Old Settlers Recall Brimfield Picnic Traditions

Local reminiscences describe past Old Settlers gatherings with a brass band meeting the social train at the railroad station, basket lunches shared at one table, Belford’s swing ride, George Tully’s music, a house corral in Forneys pasture, and 25 cent Old Letters day memories. Attendees recall Mrs. Kate Roath’s tent meals, Bill George’s Boss ice cream, Sam Fisher’s trick bicycle, Harry Fisner’s foot race, Sam Wiley directing the Woodman band, Governor Deneen’s oration and hamburger, Seth Cobb and Tom Pacey’s lemonade stands, and merry-go-round rides sold six for a quartz.

Tractor Accident Claims Arm on Rosefield Job

Robert La Follette age 18 son of Jim La Follette road commissioner of Rosefield township lost his right arm at work Wednesday when a Caterpillar tractor part pinched the limb between a water pump and a distributor bar. Circuit Cady was summoned to Enoville Sunday upon the death of his grandfather James Anderson. Mrs J B Edwards of Chicago visited to supervise cottage renovations here. Charles Hayes Joseph Bruninga and Ray Bowman spent three days last week marketing at the Kansas City stock yards.

Archibald family reunion conducted Sunday at Elmwood West Pack with members from Elmwood Oak Hill Trivoli Brimfield Eden Iowa and Peoria. Two births two deaths reported. Officers elected include Clyde Archibald president and William Archibald vice president. Next gathering set for last Sunday in August in Elmwood.

Mrs Gerald Coon Guest of Honor at Clark Home

Helen Clark and Margaret Bowman invited guests to the Clark home on Wednesday evening to honor Mrs Gerald Coon the recent bride. Guests enjoyed games while the honoree searched boxes containing gifts for the new home. Attending were Mrs Walter Chapin Mrs James Cmith Alice Tully and Mrs Russell Moon of Peoria and Mrs Kenneth Hireme of Canton. Green and white refreshments were served.
