August 10 1889 reports prices for corn oats wheat butter and eggs with hogs at 400 and 700, plus entries on a Fair staff, telegraphy learning, and a bread price for poor families. August 14 Old Lettie's Day features a charity program and a fire company water throw. new school principal J G Spiker arrives. Lacon school superintendent W W Jarman signs a contract.
Shane district items report Elizabeth Smith calling on Laud erbask girls Sunday. Bennie Smith had a bicycle accident causing a strained ankle. Mr and Mrs B Bennett returned home after visiting relatives. Lena McGuines spends August with uncle Jr Bruttrick in Canton. Weather and rain hoped for. crops are progressing well.
The Peoria picnic will be held at Glenn Oak Park featuring a girls’ game and a men’s baseball match with county winners, plus a speaking program on national agricultural extension and the Illinois Farm Bureau. Past advisers Hedgecock Shaw and Coultns expected. An erosion control tour on the west Peoria county shown aims to study soil fertility and crop rotation methods.
A school event features contests for pupils including two oldest brothers and two sisters, with prizes of 50c and 25e. Laura and Virginia McDonna spent last week in Monica visiting relatives and friends Mr and Mrs Don Webster and children. Bobby Newberg of Galesburg stayed with Mr and Mrs Ray Douglas. Locals attended Knox County Fair and Princeville Homecoming last week. Mr and Mrs Homer Webster and family drove to Bloomington Friday to meet Mary Webster. Symmons and a son of Peeriy called on Mrs Mary Miller and Mr and Mrs Homer Friday evening. Shannon Powers returned from a Wisconsin camp and will stay August with his mother Zellm Powers before returning to the U of Illinois in September.

Mr and Mrs Earl Nixon and Mr and Mrs Philip Kratzer left Sunday August 6 for Nyasa Oregon to visit relatives D H Curran. They plan Portland for the National Garrirer n Convention and then San Francisco for the fair returning home in about a month. Mrs Dora Nixee accompanied them to Grand Island Nebraska and will visit Ord Nebraska relatives.
Mrs. Orville Addis of Toulon hosted a Sunday picnic supper at Lake Calhoun to mark Edna Galef’s 17th birthday. Guests included the Addis family, Grace Mosher, Ralph Shade, Elza Graves of Prineville, Lucille Bareh of La Fayette, Clyde Boyd, Pauline of San Antonio, and Edith Baue who celebrated her sister’s birthday at Kirksville.
Officers named for the Old Settlers Association include President J. Donald Best Vice President Rue Savage Secretary D. H. Johnson Treasurer Henry Johnson and Member Walter Rayfield along with decorators Walter Rayfield J. A. Clark and Roy Cecil.
