Would-Be Groom Slain in Hartford Crash While Failing to Marry

John J Davis of Dorchester Massachusetts tried to wed in Hartford under a state law delaying marriage until five days notice. After failing to marry, he rushed back toward Boston, crashing into a Hartford family car. A ten month old, Dorothy Kennedy, died. parents and others injured. Davis and his fiancée Alberta Bubb were badly hurt, witnesses Thomas Gerard and Miriam Clifford also injured. Davis faced criminal negligence, reduced to reckless driving with a $100 fine and thirty days. Civil suits seek about $50,000. Davis lost access to MIT and became an apprentice electrician.
