Senate Finance Committee rejects Mellon tax plan

The Senate Finance Committee disapproved Secretary Mellon’s excess profits tax repeal and keeps the 3 percent corporate tax. It also repeals the capital stock tax, extends individual income tax filing rules, and plans to require all gross incomes over five thousand dollars to file returns. Proposals to raise inheritance taxes and keep half the freight and passenger taxes will be considered next.

Burr Chosen To Head Fairfield Republican Ticket

Fairfield, fest 13.—In the Republican caucus the town convention in Fairfield selected Burr as the first candidate for town offices. The vote totals for Burr were 349 to 43.
