Cuts Navy Budget But Retains Huge Building Program
Washington, Nov. 25. Naval estimates for 1920 are cut by 1.18 billion after the armistice, Secretary Daniels told Secretary McAdoo. Original war basis 2.64 billion reduced to 1.464 billion. 600 million for fees unchanged. A three year building plan for 186 ships aims to add 10 superdreadnoughts, six battle cruisers, and 140 smaller vessels. Major cutbacks hit the bureau of ordnance and navy pay. House naval committee hearings on the 1924 bill proceed, with figures to be sent soon.
