Turkeys and Prices Rise in Markets Here

Turkeys for Thanksgiving are selling from 48 to 53 cents a pound with large fresh killed birds at around 55 cents. Ridgeport markets report chickens at 34 to 44 cents per pound. Hundreds of soldiers sailors and marines charged through police to attack international Socialists at a Madison Square Garden mass meeting. Camp Upton to Discharge 1000 Soldiers Today

At Camp Upton New York on November 25 the first 1000 soldiers designated for discharge underwent final physicals in preparation for release from service. Discharges will begin with limited service men before general service personnel and include transport by special trains when needed. About 18,000 men are currently at the camp awaiting processing.

Bridgeport Boys Praised for 14th Infantry Bravery

A letter to Mrs. Murphy from her brother Private William Grandhead of Company L details that the 14th Infantry, including over 100 Bridgeport youths, was cited for bravery by General Pershing after a six day engagement in the Argonne near Verdun. The unit won hills and woods thought unreachable, then prepared for demobilization.

Fast Side Woman Killed by Car on Waldorf Avenue

Mrs. John Holt of 776 Noble Avenue was killed instantly when struck by a car driven by Charles J. McCarthy of Milford near Waldorf and Walield avenues while attempting to board a trolley. McCarthy is held on a manslaughter charge at the Third Precinct after urgent ambulance and police response.

Knight Templars' Oldest Member R E Hough Dies

R N Hough a longtime resident and the Knights Templar’s oldest member died last night at his son’s home 173 Laurel Avenue at age 61. He was known in fraternal circles and leaves a son Charles T Hough cashier at City National Bank. Advain Slootmaker of the 102d Ambulance company dies in war. A letter dated November 5 from Leroy McKinnon to Slootmaker’s parents praises his bravery. Private Slootmaker, about 20, enlisted at 15 and worked before enlistment, with no official notice yet received by his brother John Slootmaker.

Connecticut's 804th Infantry to Return Home Soon

The 804th infantry, largely drawn from Norwalk and neighboring towns, will return home before the 26th Division heroes as announced by General Peyton C. March. The 26th Division faced delays. no swift return is indicated. Connecticut artillery units, connected to Stamford, may be among first to recross the Atlantic. but overall army plans await military needs and departmental decisions.
