Refuge for former crown prince on bleak Dutch island

AMSTERDAM Nov 21 The former German crown prince will live in a furnished six month lease on Parsonage at Mesterland on Wieringen island near Heltoft Naval Station. The isle houses mussel fishermen and is reachable only by a small steamer. The parsonage includes a billiard table a bath and Bible class room for the prince and his guard.

Chairman Sanford Stoddard reports draft board offices are winding up their affairs. He says boards will not be used for demobilization despite early suggestions, as higher officials take steps to end the boards. Half of Newport naval force to get discharges

Newport Rhode Island Nov 24 Authorization for the discharge of 50 per cent of the enlisted naval personnel and the naval reserve in the Second naval district who enlisted for the duration of the war was received from the Navy department at headquarters of the district here today. All the men will be given an opportunity to reenlist for four years if they so desire. The district extending from Chatham Massachusetts to New London Connecticut yields numerous bases and training schools some of which will be discontinued. The present personnel of the district is estimated at about 20 000 men.

Workman Struck By Bridgeporter Dead of Injuries

Alfredo Lenoci of Hallett Street released on a 1000 bond as coroner John Monzani of Waterbury investigates the death of Michael Phillips who died from injuries after being struck Thursday evening by a Senegal driven car in Naugatuck. Phillips died Saturday morning at Waterbury hospital while en route to his Rubber Regenerers plant job on Riverside Drive.

In Canbury Connecticut on November 24 the body of Paul Simek aged 30 was discovered today in a local pond at White's Bend near the city edge. He had disappeared from his home Wednesday night.

Two Bridgeport Men Wounded in Final Onslaught

Bridgeport residents Private Sém F Pirozzoli of the 49th Infantry and Private Henry B. Fagan of the 0th Infantry were wounded in France during the Argonne drive. Pirozzoli, 23, a former local bartender, was hit in the left leg and is in base hospital in France. Fagan, 22, was hit in the thigh while on scout duty, recovering in base hospital 25 in France. A third local, Zonovy Minnich, was listed missing then reported back to duty.

Deutschland Subs Surrender at Harwich in Large Flotilla

In Harwich England on November 24 1918 a large German surrender flotilla arrived. U 153 the cruiser submarine Deutschland carrying two American officers rescued from the Ticonderoga arrived amid the ceremony. U 139 commanded by Lt Cmdr Arnauld De La Perriere also surrendered after a long cruise, while U 13 was brought in by a first lieutenant who cited Perrieres reluctance to resume duties. The event occurred under Sir Eric Geddes watching.

Feast of Hymen melee ends with eleven arrested on Willard St

A wedding reception at Sadler's Hall on Willard Street erupted into a hour long brawl involving guests, knives, bottles and furniture. Eleven people were taken into custody at the Second Precinct on charges of assault breach of the peace and resisting officers. officers were injured and a guest named Felik fled. Police described the bride and groom as not among those arrested.

Pot of Grease Causes Fire in Restaurant

A pot of grease burning in the Greek American restaurant at 749 Main Street shortly after 3 AM yesterday was extinguished by Chemical 1. An alarm from Gox 19 Main and Gilbert streets brought out several pieces of apparatus, but their services were not needed. There was no damage.

Bridgeport Beer Holds Supply Through Prohibition Era

Bridgeport will be supplied with beer until July. Connecticut Breweries president John Spittler told Telegram that production ends December 1 but stored stock will cover trade needs until next summer when prohibition starts. He could not say what becomes of the plant, noting officials have not planned ahead. The buildings could be converted for other manufacturing.

Paris November 24 Twenty members of the American army ambulance service commanded by Lieutenant Martin Owens formerly a New York policeman have been cited in a divisional order of the French army and awarded the War Cross with silver star.
