Twenty more German submarines surrender to Admiral Tyrwhitt off Harwich, bringing total to 59 with one lost overnight. Submerged craft include many large boats with wireless gear. German crews display revolutionary sentiment, some removing Prussian emblems and shouting anti‑officer slogans as officers struggle to maintain discipline aboard.
Stratford Police Chief William Nichols described a midnight visit to the Dorsey flat on Sacha Street. Walter Dorsey and a woman not his wife were found in pajamas. Dorsey’s estranged wife, Corianna Lamcreaux, testified to prior marriage and an embarrassing confrontation that led to separation.
Hartford November 22 The federal food administrator Robert Scoville received a Washington telegram stating Boston refineries lack sugar while New York refiners are crowded Buyers should obtain shipments from New York as allowed margins cover delivery costs The notice urges Connecticut jobbers to buy New York sugars for December certificate needs Also in Stratford Isaac Washkowitz a fish peddler was struck by a heavy auto truck at Stratford Avenue and Beardsley Road and is hospitalized with a fractured shoulder. the truck is owned by Stoddard Gilbert Co and driven by John Taylor of Beardsley Street
HEADQUARTERS OF THE AMERICAN FIRST ARMY reports the American forces are intact as homeward movement begins. Construction and contracts are halted. soldiers are en route to ports or arranging embarkation plans as they return from the front.
More than 100 Bridgeporters in the 13th and 114th Infantry of the Blue and Gray division fought a six day action near Verdun from October 12 to 17. The War Department issued official citations, confirming heroic deeds and sacrifices as reports from the battle filter out. Continued on page 28.
Bridgeport plans to re light the white way as the lightless night rules are lifted. A lack of city officials delayed official confirmation, but state and federal officials announced the ban is ended. Stores open evenings may use window lights and large signs are expected to glow tonight as theatres and businesses resume normal lighting.

Six boys aged 13 to 16 were arrested by Bridgeport police after allegedly planning a joy ride in a stolen touring car from Mrs. George Schwenck of 38 York Street. They allegedly raided stores for food and supplies, with blankets, sweaters, boots, and shoes among the claimed booty.
A blaze at the Standard Oil loading decks in Canton waterfront district threatened broad damage. Piers and oil tanks were destroyed while machinery and gasoline storage were ruined. The fire, sparked by pile driver sparks, caused an estimated total loss of about $1,000,000.
Major General Lucien Burpee told a Fourth Infantry dinner at Stratfield that the State Guard will continue and be needed more than ever. Some reserve companies in smaller towns may be mustered out, but larger cities will keep units. Colonel Clifford B. Wilson led the rifle team that won a silver cup, with bronze medals awarded to team members.
Samuel Ferguson state director has ordered all agents including William H Comley Jr to resign as the War Industries board lifts restrictions on building operations. Ferguson says the non war construction section becomes constructive and will receive encouragement from the War Industries board, with full release expected once sufficient steel is available.

McAdoo resigns as secretary of the treasury and director general of railroads, Wilson accepting the move and awaiting a successor.

Washington November 22 Secretary Baker announced the resignation of John D Ryan chief of air service and second assistant secretary of war and William C Potter chief assistant. They wish to return to private business but will stay until air craft demobilization ends and to aid the department as needed. After their retirement the offices will not be filled immediately if at all and no new director is deemed necessary in Ryans place.
In Stratford Paradise Green a car driven by Charles Allen struck a horse drawn team. John Reynolds died at Bridgeport Hospital from a fractured skull. Stephen Barbershek suffered a broken leg and collar bone. Allen was arrested without bail. The injured occupants were treated at Stratford police station and at the hospital.
