Prohibition Meeting In Norwalk Urges Repeal Of Eighteenth

About 200 people gathered at the Royal James Inn Norwalk for the first dinner of the Norwalk branch of the Association against the Prohibition Amendment led by Dr James Empringham of New York Church Temperance Society. Speakers including Mayor Alfred N Phillips and William P Trent outlined objections to prohibition urging a modification of the Volstead act and eventual repeal in Connecticut.

Advertising Pageant Awards Mark Bridgeport Show

The Bridgeport Pageant of Advertising drew about 1000 attendees at the Ritz ballroom last night. D M Read company dominated with the first prize as teams dressed in 1857 and modern styles, celebrating the D M Read company's 10th anniversary. Second prize went to Raybestos, third to George I Welles of Mitchell Dairy, with Mary Bean and Arvid Frisk among the prizewinners. The event featured local ads on paneled walls and a judge panel including Claude Schaffner and J H Adams.

Prohibition Must Be Enforced Or Repeal May Follow

Senator William E Borah told the National Grange in Cleveland that if the Eighteenth Amendment cannot be enforced, proponents will seek to outlaw it. He warned that constant flouting could lead to removing the amendment from the Constitution and urged party fidelity to constitutional government amid threats to democracy.

Liquor Seized At 622 Main Street Store

Police raided Vito Calabrise's store at 622 Main Street Stratford arresting the 32 year old on a liquor law violation. Detectives found 43 half pint bottles and 12 pints of liquor plus 37 empty bottles and large empty cans in back storage. Calabrise, who moved from New York a month ago, is held on $300 bond awaiting City Court.

Rome dispatch reports the 67 year old Duke of Torlonia planning to file countercharges personally against his wife in Bridgeport Connecticut courts. Remus's rampage in court over Taft during murder trial

In Cincinnati, November 18, a jury was seated for George Remus' murder trial when Remus erupted in a 15 minute fury directed at Charles P Taft II and Carl E Basler. Worker killed as steamer blows up in Baltimore

The steamship Jacob Luckenbach exploded while in dry dock in Baltimore injuring four workers and likely blowing one overboard. Darien Officer Killed in Motorcycle Collision

In Darien on Nov 18 officer William E Bowman 34 and fellow officer Albert Ruman 32 collided after Ruman failed to slow for a speeding roadster. Bowman died at Norwalk hospital from a fractured skull while Ruman, treated for injuries, was arrested on manslaughter charges and later released on recognizance. Bowman left a wife and six children. Ruman claimed Bowman stepped into his path.
