President Coolidge told the Union League of Philadelphia that a new prosperity era should be used to develop resources and defend the nation while promoting peace. He emphasized tax cuts, debt retirement, and stronger navy and air forces, and urged closer ties with Western Hemisphere republics through economic assists and aviation links.
United States Attorney George H. Cohen said in Hartford that the Duchess Torlonia of Greenwich will not be deported unless citizenship fraud is proved. He noted deportation cannot occur to an American citizen and that potential actions could cancel citizenship if fraud is shown. The Duchess, former Isle Moore of Greenwich, resumes her divorce trial against Duke Marino Torlonia of Rome with passport questions central to jurisdiction.
The late Frederick J Kingsbury of New Haven left an estate valued at about 2. x million dollars, the largest probated there since 1909. Probate Judge John L. Gilson accepted the inventory and appraisal of real and personal property. Under the will the income goes to Adele T Kingsbury for life, remainder to children Mrs. Richard C Sargent and Frederick J Kingsbury Jr. Executed by Rowley W. Phillips and the Union and New Haven Trust Co. The MCA legacy of 15 thousand went to New Haven. Walter B Lashar of the American Chain Co thwarted a plan to shift control of Waterbury Gas Light to the American Commonwealth Co, keeping Waterbury utility in Connecticut hands. A proposed sale to the Commonwealth at 9655 per share was blocked. Lashar, a director, owned 4,000 of 106,600 shares, later reported to have bought 20,000 more. Francis Slattery fifty two of 122 Main street died yesterday at 2 10 AM from illuminating gas poisoning in a likely accident not suicide per Medical Examiner H R DeLuca after inspecting the scene. A mass will be held at St Charles church, with Catholic officials confirming the accidental death finding. Slattery, formerly a Park Department employee, had been out of work and mourning the loss of his wife and mother, with neighbors perplexed by the circumstances.

Washington, Nov 17. The Weather Bureau says the storm advisory remains in effect from northern Cape Hatteras to Block Island with a disturbance of considerable strength moving northeast over the Middle Atlantic and North Atlantic States. The system, which produced a tornado and severe thunderstorm in Washington area, is intensifying and accompanied by numerous thunderstorms offshore. Rain totals over 2 inches in the last 12 hours reported in affected zones, with outlook for Friday predicting more rain in New York and New England and colder but fair weather elsewhere in the eastern region.
