Army will build Nike launching station in Milford

Mil ford officials brushed aside alarm as Army spokesmen announced plans for a Nike guided missile launching station in Woodmont. The two-area site will cover 15 and 30 acres with a 96-person crew. Construction to start in spring and finish in about six months at a cost of 400000 to 1200000. The station will have underground explosives storage, its own police and fire apparatus, and no testing or live firing except in emergencies.

New Censure Charge to Be Sought Against McCarthy

Sen. Bennett announces on the Senate floor he will seek a new censure count against Sen. McCarthy for attacking the Wat kins committee and its chairman. Watkins threatens his own contempt charge while McCarthy scoffs at the move, calling it Alice in Wonderland and curiouser and curiouser. Bennett plans to amend the censure resolution to include the attack on the committee.

Irving M. Johnson reports 2604 Bridgeport area residents signed yesterday joining the Ten Million Americans Mobilizing for Justice effort to back Senator Joseph R. McCarthy. He notes 326 petitions from New York were circulated, with 1250 callers at his home and plans to publish a facsimile in The Bridgeport Telegram and Post.

Fire roars through South Baltimore block destroys firms

A major blaze in South Baltimore engulfed an entire city block, damaging or destroying at least twenty firms and forcing 150+ residents from their homes. Three explosions sent flames 80 to 100 feet high as 60 fire units fought the fire, with police and military police keeping spectators back. One firefighter, George Powell, was burned, and the Underwood Employes Federal Credit Union, hindered by strike pickets, suspended operations and invoked by-law sections to curb withdrawals until injunctions are resolved.

Airliners end hops over Arctic in historic link

Two SAS jets completed a polar crossing linking Los Angeles and Copenhagen in under a day. The Royal Viking landed in Copenhagen after 24 hours from L A and the Helge Viking reached Los Angeles in 27 hours 10 minutes. Both stopped in Greenland and Winnipeg with officials aboard.

Secretary of State Dulles warned that any attack on Formosa would draw U S forces into conflict, while discussing coexistence with Russia. Rescuers Speed To Crippled Ship Off Newfoundland

Halifax N S Nov 16 AP the Panamanian flagged freighter Stork crew manned pumps to save their crippled ship after the captain ordered lifeboats. RAF search planes at Torbay Nfld reported about 40 aboard as the vessel edged toward Newfoundland’s west coast amid fresh gales threatening ships in the Gulf of St Lawrence. The Stork had last message “We are getting in the lifeboats. Come and pick us up.” The tug Foundation Josephine II sped from Quebec with Chincoteague Coast Guard cutter also bound for the site.
