Fire Destroys WNAB Radio Studio in Beers Building

Fire swept the top floor studios of radio station WNAB at 983 993 Broad Street early today. Four fire companies fought heavy smoke, with ladder trucks and a 2 a.m. containment as offices on the lower floors remained affected.

Lola Hits Guam with 140 MPH Winds and Heavy Damage

Typhoon Lola slammed Guam with winds over 140 mph causing millions of dollars in damage. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed and hundreds of families evacuated. Power was out 16 hours as a 50 foot wave struck the southern coast and infrastructure suffered extensive impact.

Inmates Protest Medical Service At State Prison

Warden Mark S. Richmond said 400 of 880 inmates staged a sitdown strike over medical care in Wethersfield prison. The protest followed the death of Joseph Del Gobbo of Waterbury, with authorities noting staff limits hinder adding a physician and nurses.
