Chester Grant Holders in Split Over Stock Offering
A syndicate led by a New York financier considered offers to underwrite the Chester Grant project. British, international, French and Italian bankers floated guarantees totaling up to 40 million pounds for significant participation, while internal friction delayed action. Knowles was appointed counsel on October 19 to push stockholder wishes, with 20 000 of 40 000 shares slated for public subscription and a 10 000 share public sale authorized as Turkish rail expansion pressure mounted. Voting trusts bound Goethals and Sheridan to guide a potential shell to fund the full project when feasible.
