Cunningham Car Fourth in Rage at Le Mans Race
In Le Mans France on June 15 Mercedes-Benz cars took first and second in the 24 hour endurance race with Nash Healey third and Cunningham fourth. Hermann Lang and Fritz Riess won driving for Mercedes averaging 96.6 mph to cover about 2320 miles, as fog and cold mist challenged drivers overnight. Briggs Cunningham and Bill Spear in the Cunningham entry moved from seventh to fourth in the final hours, battling valve trouble and late surges by rivals. Thousands watched as the field passed under night fog on the eight and a half mile circuit.
