Bridgeport celebrated a record flag unfurling at Pleasure Beach on July 4 1912 witnessed by about twenty thousand people. Mayor Wilson Congressman Feully and Captain George Auger presided as a 135 by 84 foot banner, weighing 1080 pounds, soared between two towers. The mammoth flag cost about 9000 to 9500 and used extensive rigging with furniture hardware stores emptied of turnbuckles.
