Shanghai reports widespread anti foreign risings across China amid riots and censorship. Workers boycott foreign newspapers as several incidents of violence unfold, with electrified barricades at foreign con ceptions and a 1,000 strong crowd in Klu Klang cited in dispatches.
Bridgeport man John Robert Kelley was named commander as the fifth annual Connecticut Veterans of Foreign Wars encampment closed in Bristol. Other officers elected include Bristol's Charlie Blanchard as senior vice commander and Meriden's William Dibbie as junior vice commander. Changes to by laws expanded the executive council to ten, with measures supporting Defense Day observance, veteran home taxation exemption, and additional legislation for disabled veterans in transition. National deputy chief of staff Jonn L. Latham, the state’s sole Medal of Honor recipient, arrived and was greeted with cheers as new officers were installed by Arthur C. Bennett.
Westport officials held Mrs William Card Moore of Bruce Park Greenwich and chauffeur Jerry O Connor after a five day escapade ending with a police pursuit. They were joined by local youth Chip Dooling in a high speed caper that began when O Connor joined the Moore household as chauffeur and drove toward New York for a uniform, then vanished for several days before being overtaken on Compo Street. Police offered no clear charges or details pending further action.
Los Angeles reports that Dr. Thomas Young confessed overnight to killing Grace Young, strangling her with dental gas in Beverly Glen on February 21. He described a broken glasses incident and claimed an inferiority complex drove the act, with her body concealed in a cistern uncovered this morning.
Greenwich June 14 Special An automobile equipped with copper tanks hid liquor between upholstery and roof was seized last midnight. Motorcycle policeman George Robbins arrested two men Harry Greenberg of Boston and Harry Ripon of Maass transporting liquor in violation of state law. Greenberg tried to flee toward a carny crowd but was captured after Robbins fired five shots. About 100 gallons of liquor were drained from the tanks using a faucet under the car.
Early today burglars attempted to drill and blow open the Stillson Powell Drug Store safe on South Main Street using a 220 volt drill but blew the machine apart and fled. They also pried into the adjoining Leon Golden dress shop and forced a door lock to take dresses. An attempted entry at Liggett drug store via skylight failed. Authorities found burned fuses and broken drills. The break in was detected by a clerk at opening window.
President Calles condemns Kellogg statement as a threat to Mexico’s sovereignty. He rejects U.S. inter vention in domestic affairs and warns that Mexico will defend its international obligations and reject any insinuation of being on trial. The Mexican embassy release notes claims cases against foreigners and regrets the revolution remark.
Three men Samuel Barnett Michael Lorenzo and James Marrlo were held by Stamford police on suspicion of car theft after a vehicle they rode in was found. Barnett claimed the car belonged to a Providence friend and was being taken to New York for repair. Providence police were asked to verify the tale and hold the men until checks could be made.
New Haven June 14 AP Joseph Koletsky counsel for Olympia Macri in her trial for the slaying of John Bagnano urged the state’s attorney to publicly repudiate alleged slurs and urged bar association members to defend the trial’s conduct. He denied accusing a juror of losing control of emotions and criticized the bar for notices about a meeting.
Mary E Holzer Cutting wife of Thomas W Cutting died at Bridgeport Hospital after a four week illness. She was Bridgeport s first woman member of the Board of Education and the first principal of the new Lincoln school. A Bridgeport native, she taught in local schools and later retired after marriage in 1902. She belonged to St Paul s Episcopal church and various clubs and was noted as a painter on china. Survived by her husband, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral Wednesday at 2 30 from her home with burial in Lake View cemetery.
Mrs James Marites of Walnut Beach heard her Pekinese Binkus bark then observed a woman, a man, and the dog leaving her cottage. Police across the county were alerted and Bridgeport dispatched to monitor autos and trains for the trio and recovered dog if possible.
Eugene Lamotte of Montreal was shot by immigration patrolmen at Weatheld near the Canadian border and died in a Newport hospital hours later. Timothy M. Baker, also of Montreal, and two others, alleged to be Chinese, were said to be involved in a border smuggling attempt.
Bridgeport residents called away from private plans Saturday night to aid a naval rescue. Submarine chaser 271 sailed from Bridgeport to assist chaser 252 aground on Penfield reef near Fairfield beach, while chaser 262, bound for Bridgeport, faced uncertain water depths before relief efforts began. Lieutenant Charles B Leonard organized reservists to support the mission as dawn approached.

Fairfield June 14 Special. John Stankowitz of Florence street lost control of his auto on Brentwood avenue. No other cars available for an accident. The car crashed into a metal garage, knocked down a wall and rammed a car owned by Joseph Gu do. Stankowitz and his son were slightly injured. Constable H R Elwood arrested Stankowitz for reckless driving and operating while license was suspended.

Dutes W. Flint owner of the steel yacht Halcyon reports the vessel rammed in fog by a freighter while at anchor near New London. The incident left six or more injured including Mrs Fant and two children trapped in a state room as 100 barrels of water flooded the yacht. The freighter backed away, Halcyon listed on her beam ends near Griswold Hotel after collision.
