Steamer Winneconne Libel Suit Settled in New Haven
In a Federal court today the tramp steamer Winneconne tied to be released after owners agreed to file bond for $250,000. The ship, carrying coal from Wales to Hartford and Portland, was involved in a collision in New Orleans harbor that injured thirteen. The United States Shipping Board had libeled the vessel and countered with the same amount seeking damages for alleged negligence by the steamer’s commander.
