Connecticut fuel administrator Thomas W. Hassell said final barge rate figures would wait on national adjustment. Local board head Thomas J. Pardy noted rebates may apply to yard sidewalk and cellar deliveries under new rates. Bridgeport’s June coal arrivals show May and June shortages narrowing, with July or August crucial for domestic supply. Soldier Welcome Home Is Donated
War Bureau reports its search for a central city house for soldiers failed until Edward W. Harral offered his Golden Hill street home near Harrison Street. The seven bedrooms on the second floor can hold 20 cots, while the first floor has four large rooms. Harral and his wife consented to house soldiers for the war, with a committee to furnish it and funds to maintain it. Justice Wheeler noted the act mirrors givers’ spirit as city funds cannot cover the project.
