U-Boat Bombs Orleans Sinks Tug and Barges
A German submarine attacked the tug Perth Amboy and four barges off Orleans at 10:30 A M. The tug burned to the water’s edge and two barges, Lansford and Number 740, were sunk. Three crewmen on the Lansford were wounded. Captain Ainslie and two Austrian crew members were hurt. Seaplanes attacked the U boat and the submarine submerged. The raid left barges worth 90000 and the tug valued at 100000 damaged.

20 Officers in Hospital During Hot Wave at Niantic Camp
Special training camp at Niantic on July 21 amid extreme heat sent about 20 officers to the hospital for heat exhaustion and sore feet. Lieut Edwin Co Spall of Stratford injured a finger during bayonet drill as the camp began before breakfast with intensive exercises. Military police patrolled the grounds while Governor Holcomb and Major General Burpee watched training. Pigeons carried a congratulatory note to Col. Burpee of Hartford and an invitation to attend the camp. Real work and bayonet practice, guard duty, and riot-call drills will replace parade drills as the emphasis of the Connecticut State Guard.

French Troops Enter Chateau Thierry and Advancing
Paris dispatch reports French troops entered Chateau Thierry this morning with heavy fighting continuing north and south of the Ourcq and between the Marne and Rheims.
