Fugitive Barry Comrade Captured Near New London

James Francisco Monahan alias Boston Billy Williams, linked to the Livermore home robbery, was shot in the leg and captured by Nassau and Burna detectives after a chase from Sound View to Lyme. Monahan, son of Judge Webster Thayer in Worcester, denied complicity in the Livermore burglary and said he knew Barry from New York gambling houses. He was taken to Mineola for trial after hospital treatment in New London.

Wood Hails War Dept Rule of Filipinos

Washington July 7 The Administrative control of The Philippine Islands should stay with the War department not move to the Interior department says Governor General Wood while on leave after a conference with Secretary Davis and Major General Frank McIntyre. He noted the islands favor independence is an utopian dream causing higher taxes and reduced trade and urged the administration to retain jurisdiction with the War department. Continued on Page Two.

Deposed Doctor Says Grand Jury Threatened Him

New Haven July 7 Associated Press. Dr Frank E Gavins of Bridgeport surrendered his Connecticut medical license in January 1924 to the Hartford Grand Jury over the diplomatic situation. Gavins testified the surrender was voluntary after the foreman warned he would take it away. Beardsley West Hartford secretary of the Grand Jury corroborated the surrender. The appeal argues the Grand Jury had no right to demand or accept the license and that privilege to practice could only be removed by lawful revocation. Continued on page two.

Mrs. BP. H. Hussey visiting Westport learned by telegram that her son Arthur M. Hussey and his wife, both New Rochelle school teachers, were safe after being missing since Friday in a storm near Crawford Notch New Hampshire. The couple, experienced hikers, sheltered in a temporary shelter built by Arthur and waited out the blizzard before continuing to Mount Willey camp ground.

Car Plunges 650 Feet After Guard Rail Collapse

Two men and a girl escaped death when their car skidded on wet pavement near Stratford and crashed through the guard railing on the Washington bridge approach. It plunged about 650 feet to the ground below, inflicting multiple injuries. Alfred Veilleux and Muriel Asselin suffered injuries. Alonzo Cloutier and the passenger endured more severe harm. The vehicle flipped several times. driver reported loss of control before the fall. The group was treated at Milford Hospital.

Bicycle Windmill Boat To Cross Atlantic From England

Warrington England July 7 By Associated Press a 12 foot long steel boat named the Carrie is built by William Oldham to sail from England to New York using wind and manual power. It features a two blade screw pedal cycle and a windmill with six compartments and four windows. Two persons may ride but no full sleeping space. Oldham estimates a 40 day voyage.

A tornado from the southwest struck Norwalk yesterday afternoon, ripping roofs at Raton Point and several concessions, blowing down wires and forcing park closures. Fire Commissioner’s Dog Dolph Killed After Turpentine Blinded Him

Milford July 1 Special Correspondent Dolph a German born police dog valued at 500 by owner William M O Hara president of the Board of Fire Commissioners was killed by a police officer after being blinded and burned by turpentine applied following a paint rub. The dog once served as sentinel and breeding animal on the commissioners grounds, shocking the O Hara family with the loss.

Settlement Ends Hazing Controversy at County Hospital

In New York on July 7 the hazing controversy over Jewish internes at the county hospital was settled when assault charges were withdrawn after a letter from gentile staff apologized for the June 20 incident.
