The former interior secretary and the California oil operator face retrial on roughly the same facts after the Supreme Court voided lease contracts as lacking authority and tainted by the 100000 transaction. The 100000 loan claim is disputed, with juries previously finding not guilty in a related conspiracy trial as the leases were negotiated.

Captain Curtis Wheeler and Lieutenant Carl Sack of the 27th Division Air Service died when their Curtiss JM-4 plane crashed near Pine Camp Watertown New York. Wheeler aged 36 from New York City and Yale graduate, was observer. Sack aged 26, a chemist with Pennsylvania Railroad, was pilot. The two planes took off together. wreckage found after second plane reported missing. Their deaths follow a training flight at Pine Camp.
An unlicensed flight from Shark airport in Huntington led to the deaths of amateur pilot Walter S. Sheppard, 25, and passenger John F. Morgan, 19, after their plane dove into the Ohio River. Both men, strangers met at the field, were trapped in the cockpit and drowned. recovery took hours.
Westport faces beach parking reform at a special town meeting. The new ordinance repeals April provisions, banning outsiders from preferred lots and designates side-by-side parking along the road from pavilion to cannons. Two women were found dead in their Minneapolis home early today amid theories of jealousy or gang warfare. Mrs Teddy Dubois, partly clothed, lay beside a bed while Mrs Anne Grenville, fully clothed, was found near her. Both were shot in the head. Charles M Hutchinson, detained for questioning, and taxi driver who found the bodies provided few leads. Police found liquor and near beer during search. Mrs Dubois was about 27, formerly ran a small hotel. Miss Grenville, nearly 30, was daughter of labor organizer George Grenville, now in Harvey, Illinois.
A skeleton found by workmen in Darien was turned over to police. Trooper Charles Myatt of West Port assigned to the case arranged transport to the barracks. State Police Sergeant Frank Virelli examined the skeleton and said he could not place it without a report from the coroner and assistance from medical staff.
Word reached Mr and Mrs Harry Wilson of 540 Warren Street that their son Frank Wright Wilson a jockey at Lincoln Park Chicago died Friday in Harvey Ill He was born and schooled in Bridgeport and is survived by his parents two brothers George Meriden Gilbert Bridgeport and two sisters Mrs Louise Baylies and Mise Tela Wuran of Bridgeport

Two automobiles were reported stolen last night from different locations. W Frank J. Denese owned a car with Conn markers H-9735 taken near Housatoni e avenue and Congress street between eight and 11 o'clock. John Branefield's car with markers F-99654 was taken from Oak street near Lexington avenue.

Packard-Bridgeport Motors Inc will build a new showroom and service station at 1000 Fairfield Avenue costing 8100,000 to 8120,000. The firm will also buy the McNeil property including the homestead and adjacent lot for about 50,000. Approval to erect the building was granted by the Board of Appeals yesterday afternoon, contingent on the purchase. A Wintzer opposed the application citing civic pride. Continued on Page Two.
STATE COLLEGE Pa July 6 By Associated Press Bombardment of a city of 16 000 with tear gas to prove the humanity and efficacy of gas warfare was urged by Dr Harry N Helmes Oberlin College chemistry professor in an American Chemical Society address He argued gas warfare though brutal is less so than other fighting and a tear gas test in a city could sway public opinion by dispelling prejudice and fear He noted United States surgeon general statistics claiming gas casualties were a small fraction of total war wounds and blamed gas con stituent waste and inefficiency for disproportionate fatalities.
A tornado swept from northeast of Mount Pleasant injuring several and killing one person, a small child of Harry Hasen. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Marshall and other household members, plus tourists near Materall, were among the injured as the storm tracked 16 miles northeast, widening to about one mile across the county.
