Gibbons Stays Close With Dempsey Then Loses Verdict

In a chaotic scene at a Lordship area restaurant near the trolley barns, Joseph Huiz 26 was shot and wounded by Roger Morehouse superintendent of the Lordship Railway Lines who says he fired blanks to scare, while a rowdy gang allegedly harassed trolley workers. Seaside Park fireworks tragedy and local accidents

A series of yesterday’s events include a fireworks display at Seaside Park where a thousand witnessed the explosions and several people were injured or could die from the blasts. A Bridgeport man and five others were hurt in separate automobile crashes on Lawton road and Milford thoroughfare, some seriously. A child suffered severe burns from carbon dioxide bottles while a boy was badly burned. multiple incidents leave a tally of injured across nearby towns.

Leviathan Sets Sail on First Transatlantic Pleasure Voyage

The reconditioned Leviathan, queen of the American merchant marine, began its first transatlantic pleasure voyage from New York on Uncle Sam’s birthday. Moonshine Raid Grips Slazek Family at Hillside Home

Police from the Bureau of Investigation arrested Joseph Slazek and his wife after a raid on their Hillside home uncovered a ten gallon copper still and gallons of finished moonshine. Both were jailed on $200 bonds. five children were kept at home under guard. The wife was not initially jailed due to being alone with the children, but warrants followed and she and the husband were later taken into custody.

Mrs Loewith Dies After Monday Operation

Mrs Jeng Marcus Loewith of 186 Park Avenue New Haven died suddenly after an operation Monday evening at St Raphael's hospital. The illness followed the death of her husband Siemund Loewith on June 17 and occurred more than two weeks after his passing. The prominent philanthropist and winner of Beldenport honors was greatly noted for her charitable work. Continued on page 3.

July Fourth Quiet but 20 Children Are Hurt

Heavily Laden Car Detained with Rum Bottles In New York Run

Westport July 4 Special to the Telegram Two men calling themselves Herbert J Freesar and Benjamin Sern were stopped near Nash's corner by State Policeman Anthony Manion. A high powered touring car carried 144 pint bottles of rye and scotch under cover. They were jailed in lieu of $300 bonds each and the lead confiscated. They face illegal transportation charges in Town Court Thursday morning.

Skull Fracture Sinks Boy. Four Hurt in City Crash

A 14 year old, Ralph McKay of 160 Burroughs street, was struck on Kossuth street by a car driven by Constantie Gorlock of 2h Juafaxyette street. His skull is fractured and he is in a dying condition at St. Vincent's hospital. Four others were injured in a Pembroke Street collision involving Lawrence Bincilo and Ernest Paolini.
