Harding sails on army transport to visit Alaska

President Harding departed Tacoma aboard the Army Transport Henderson for a continental tour of Alaska. The schedule included stops at Ketchikan Wrangell Juneau and Seward with a rail trip toward Anchorage Nenana and Fairbanks to celebrate the railroad completion at Nenana. The voyage also covers Sitka Cordova and Vancouver before return to Seattle.

Harding Decries Tacoma Steel Hour Day Change

Machine toppled onto two Bridgeport men at Stratford shop

July 1 Stratford. heavy machinery toppled from a truck inside Stratford Body Plant injuring George Fox 18 of Bridgeport and William Whelan of Bridgeport. Fox severely hurt, Whelan died later. both rushed to Bridgeport Hospital after first aid from Dr De Ruyter How. Both Sullivan Express employees tried to move the piece when it slipped off skids and fell.

Morse Dismissal Sought as Case of U S Is Closed

Washington July 5 Counsel for Charles W Morse his three song and four others on trial on charges of conspiracy to defraud the government on war time shipping contracts filed motions today to dismiss the indictments and to direct acquittal of the accused Justice Stafford took the motions after the government rested its case. The defense listed 33 reasons for dismissal and 14 for acquittal. Jury not present as Justice Stafford disqualified them for the day. Trial has run eleven weeks.
