Tax Free 710000 Awarded Negro In Insurance Firm Suit

A UPI report from Santa Ana says an all white jury awarded A L Fletcher 710000 tax free in damages after he sued Western National Life Insurance Co for unpaid disability benefits. Fletcher, a 42 year old rubber plant worker and Purple Heart recipient, alleged 1965 back injuries from work and that 1963 policy payments of 150 monthly stopped despite a 1965 150 monthly disability benefit. The jury awarded 60000 compensatory and 650000 punitive damages, with three dissents favoring 1 million punitive. Fletcher's attorney said the payout lacks tax and that the family faced financial hardship.
