Deacon Pays Costs for Threatening Pastor of Church
Deacon Joseph Kerry, former trustee and treasurer of the colored Baptist church, appeared before Judge Bacon Wakeman on a breach of peace charge. Rev. Ellison, church sister, alleges Berry threatened to remove the pastor from the pulpit. Berry paid costs of about $20 and was arrested last week by Constable Edwood. The church boards shifted finances to a new treasurer, William Burr, after ousting Berry from most church roles. The pastor sought to limit publicity of the dispute.
