Hired Hunters Begin Massive Minnesota Deer Kill
In a 2500 acre fenced area at Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant Arden Hills five hired hunters moved to wipe out an estimated 350 to 375 deer under a Conservation Department permit. Maj. Frederic Van Gortler ordered the deer removal due to danger to ammo truck drivers, ending Save-the-Deer efforts. Only 27 deer captured, 24 died after tranquilizing attempts. Deer carcasses to go to a vocational school meat cutting course. a meat inspector will supervise packaging of usable venison. The arsenal deer were said to host a parasitic brain roundworm.
