Expert to Float Submerged Lighter From Black Rock Harbor
The Crane Company's steam lighter A. D. McGill sank in about 15 feet of water in Black Rock Harbor after leaving New York with valves for dealers. Crews attempted to beach her but a hole in the bow flooded the hold. Snow and ice clogged the hole, delaying discovery until the vessel began taking on water near Fay erweather Light. Tow lines and wrecking crews moved to raise and patch the lighter, with pumping to commence today to float her by tomorrow noon.
