Habeas Corpus Petition Denied In Danbury Case
Superior Court Judge David M. Shea denied John M. Lawrence of New York a habeas corpus petition after five weeks of testimony. Lawrence sought dismissal of Circuit Court charges stemming from his Sept. 3 arrest for distributing pro-Arab literature in Danbury. The judge said Lawrence attempted to bypass orderly Circuit Court procedures to obtain vindication of rights, a move he deemed an extreme perversion of the judicial process. The decision also touched on conduct by New York police officials tied to a fugitive warrant in one of several complaints by Lawrence.
