Soviets Move Naval Force Off Korea Coast

Government sources say 10 to 15 Soviet warships, including cruisers and destroyers, have moved into the area from Vladivostok. The United States has withdrawn the Enterprise and left about 20 U.S. vessels nearby, with no stated connection to the Soviet presence. One Pueblo crew member was killed and three injured during the incident. the dead man is Duane D. Hodges of Creswell, Ore.

Police Seal Campus In South Carolina Negro Protest

State troopers armed with rifles cordoned off the campus of South Carolina State College in Orangeburg after a disturbance involving Negro students. Police directed traffic away and barred newsmen. An Orangeburg National Guard unit of 200 remained on standby at a nearby armory.

Prisoner Escapes From Danbury FCI After Night Class Bus

Jimmy Allen Green, 27, due for early release, failed to return from a bus trip to Danbury High School night classes. He had 793 days left on a parole violation and a three year interstate car theft sentence. Police and FBI searched the area after the 7 p.m. departure. the bus returned at 9:15 p.m. with Green missing. He has a wife and daughter in New York City.

Bridgeport’s last city horse Patch rides on

Joseph Dewhirst Sr, president of Dewhirst Dairy, keeps Patch the 29 year old Percheron at his Madison avenue barn. Once common for transport and milk delivery, horses faded with cars. Patch is believed to be Bridgeport’s last surviving horse, seen roaming Ninety Acres Park on chilly days. Dewhirst, a longtime park commissioner, donated a prize horse to UConn in 1942 and still enjoys occasional rides.
