Reports indicate nine people died when a locomotive struck an observation car. George Weiss sustained injuries and Coolidge pursues the Republican nomination. Friends organize to oppose the campaign as Stearns presents William M. Butler as a close presidential ally and personal representative in the contest.
Frank W. Stearns of Boston announced President Coolidge will seek the Republican nomination with William M. Butler as personal representative guiding campaign efforts. James Reynolds released the statement detailing the organizing plan and allied supporters to build a national network while awaiting direct word from the President.
Bridgeport fans mourn the death of Bill Donovan a former Hartford athlete and Bridgeport manager praised as one of baseballs finest both as player and leader. Friends Bob Donahue and George Wells expressed sorrow noting his four decades of dedication to the game and to New Haven and eastern league teams.
In Scranton Pennsylvania five Mt Jessup Coal Company Taine miners were killed when a roof collapsed trapping them beneath rock about 150 feet underground. London Dec 10 The possibility of J Ramaay MacDonald accepting the premiership of Stanley Baldwin’s government is suggested by the Daily Herald labor organ. It editorially reiterates that Labor would not cooperate with another party but notes if Labor took a bold line, other parties might react.
A roundup of scattered incidents including a fatal wreck on the railroad, a Twentieth Century Limited crush with injuries avoided, church attendance controversy led by Rev. Chester C. Marshall, and various local police and court motions. Two girls injured on Norwalk street, a Fairfield officer finds an abandoned car on Villa road, and a church death occurs at Trumbull.
Two 60 year old brothers, Peter Cox and Michael Cox, shared a houseboat and a home on Eagle Street. A dispute led to Peter punching Michael, injuring his nose. Police charged Peter with assault and breach of the peace while Michael faced drunkenness charges with a $30 bond.
Washington December 9 Congress reconvenes with the Senate set for a major reorganization and the House hampered by unorganized committees. Republican and Democratic leaders named regular committee assignments, to be debated on the floor tomorrow. Key picks include Lenroot Willis Pepper for foreign relations, Owens for Democrats, and Shipstead added to foreign relations per reports. Johnson of Minnesota gains an extra agriculture spot.
Special to The Telegram Hartford reports Health Commissioner Stanley H. Osborn is home ill delaying a Public Health Council meeting. The council planned to revoke licenses of seven eclectic physicians following a Grand Jury request, but the session was postponed until after Osborn’s recovery this week.
Three witnesses in Hoboken positively identify John Paring as one of the killers who shot two bank messengers in Brooklyn. A fourth witness says he resembled a shooter while six others were unsure. Police watch ships to Europe for a suspected second gunman. Paring is jailed in Hoboken, with extradition pending.

Wanbury Deco Mrs. bo Cobanks of New York City with a summer home near here was hospitalized in Danbury with a broken shoulder after her auto skidded off the road and overturned in a ditch between Shit City and Ridgefield this afternoon. her daughter escaped unhurt. Amelia Bingham, internationally known actress, reportedly improved after an operation at a private hospital.
Milford man reports a car crash on the Milford turnpike near Milford Haven after plunging 20 feet down an embankment. Four Bridgeport men were injured, two severely, and rushed to Milford Hospital with lacerations and burns. The vehicle owned by Joseph Isaacs of Bridgeport involved Harvey Savage George Miller and Joseph Slacker. Police say impairment may have contributed. two were held for bonds as the investigation continues.
A crash involving the Century Limited near Forsythe leads to the death of a senior official and serious injuries to nine others as fog and rain complicate the derailment. Authorities investigate the engineer’s role amid adverse weather.
Forsythe New York dispatch reports the Twenteeth Century Limited split into sections in fog near a railroad crossing. An automobile stalled on the crossing caused the collision with the rear section, killing and injuring occupants, including Bill Donovan of the New Haven club en route to a baseball conference in Chicago.
Chicago dispatch reports BIN Donovans last words were spoken to his farm chief William Baker hours before his death. The former manager of the Philadelphia club invited Baker and others aboard a car, lamenting pitchers lack of curve control while praising the curveball as his era's great weapon.
