New York Aug 27 Two million people could live on the Jersey Heights and reach Manhattan offices in ten to fifteen minutes if a suspension bridge were built across the Hudson at 57th street. Gustav Lindenthal, bridge engineer, testified before the Board of Army Engineers seeking approval for North River Bridge plans connecting West 7th Street in Manhattan with Weehawken New Jersey. The design calls for twenty lanes of traffic with subway elevated and street railway tracks, and five years of construction. Opposition arose from City Dock Commissioner T A Keller and shipping interests citing limited berth space for Leviathan and other vessels. Mayor Charles D Leech of Weehawken was mentioned.
