Athens mass tension flares as Bulgarian and Greek armies face off north of the city. Clashes occur daily with Greeks accusing Bulgarians of aggression while Bulgarians claim moderation. Greeks fear Bulgarians aim to push them toward the sea and seize vacated positions.
Funeral for James Dooley held at the home on 37 Avenue then at St church. Rev J A Dooley led mass with deacon and subdeacon as choir sang Thy Will Be Done and Nearer My God to Thee. Pallbearers Maurice O Brien Peter Boyle John OConnell John Clark Martin Kelly Patrick Boland interment at St Michael's cemetery with committal by Fathers Nihill Picker and Curran.
A Norwalk consolidation study outlines a joint government with 2 mayors and 12 councilmen. In Superior court, testimony questioned whether Sidney Watts of Westport was sane when he deeded property valued at $25,000 to his son Stanley. Bernard Setzer, a city resident, sues the New Haven railroad for 10000 in damages after an October 3 1912 wreck of the Springfield express at Westport. He alleges decayed ties and rails not securely fastened and seeks recovery in superior court June term.
John Darian, 389, of 683 Bostwick avenue, was run down by an auto bearing striking workers near Railroad and Bostwick after six. He suffers bruises but no serious internal injuries. Police describe the incident as rough handling amid a strike with imported break ers guarded by a New York agency at the Golden Hill hotel.
New York May 28 the board of education rules barring teachers from marrying and becoming mothers will be tested in court counsel for Mrs Bridget M F Peixotto announced She married in February 1912 but the board only learned of the marriage after she had taken six weeks sick leave and become a mother four weeks ago She was charged with neglect of duty and will face a board trial soon.
Former New York State Senator Stephen J. Stillwell convicted of bribery by a jury after Senate exoneration, sentenced to four to eight years in Sing Sing prison.
A witness in Theodore Roosevelt’s libel suit against George S. Newett testifies Roosevelt never drank to excess, only occasionally wine and never champagne beyond one glass. The Washington correspondent A C O Laughlin, with 20 years of association, asserts Roosevelts abstinent habits and recalls banquets, travels, and peace measures.
Rochester New Jersey May 28 Judge Hazel fined corporations involved in dissolving the Coaster Brake Trust and individual defendants. Companies from Bristol Middletown Elmira Chicago Buffalo New Britain and others fined up to 10000. Individuals named include Jackson Huntington Rockwell Page Treadway Graham Moore Grover Hart Webster Jacoby with sums from 1000 to 4000.
The funeral of Bridgeport's former mayor and prominent manufacturer Thomas P Taylor was held at 2 30 this afternoon in private attendance by only intimate relatives and friends. Rev H A Davenport of People s Presbyterian church read the service and the body was moved to Mountain Grove cemetery for interment. Honorary pallbearers included R G McKenzie E P Bullard Jr Archibald McNeil P L Holzer J A Rusling Sr and John C Curtis.
Henry Wells Jr a farmer of Oxford Conn was arrested for non payment of personal taxes and turned over for trial. He resided at 689 Lindley Street Bridgeport and was found by Detective Sergeant Edward Cronir.
Memphis Tenn May 28 Lee W Dutre postmaster at Memphis for 12 years indicted by the federal grand jury on the charge of soliciting campaign funds in 1919. Similar charges against Newell Sanders of Chattanooga and Henry True, leaders in Tennessee politics, were ignored.
