Old Saybrook, Conn May 27 The Connecticut Society Colonial Dames of America dedicated a stone marker at Saybrook Point designating the site of the 1635 fort built for the settlement's defense. The inscription notes Colonel George Fenwick commanded the first English fort and its destruction in 1647.

Girl witness vanishes delaying joy ride trial
The disappearance of 17 year old Marion Houlihan, expected star witness in the joy ride case against Marion Lund, Miles V. Doud, and Cohen, halted the trial before Judge Reed in criminal superior court. The state said it could not proceed without her testimony as Houlihan was reportedly in New York. The defense counsel, from Boston and Stamford, pressed for an immediate or rescheduled trial while the states attorney deferred a firm date.
