The cornerstone of St Patrick's Church in Bridgeport was laid by Bishop John Joseph Nilan on June 19 1910 in a ceremony attended by about 10 000 people. Married man kills girl then shoots himself in New York
Edward M. Allen, 35, a locomotive engineer, shot Ruth Murphy, 21, then killed himself at a lodging house just before midnight. The girl died in 20 minutes. Allen died after surgery. He left a note for his wife asking to remember only the good in him and not let their baby know how he died. The motive remains unknown.
