Bishop Nilan Arrives To Lay Cornerstone At St Patrick’s

Rt Rev John J Nilan bishop of Hartford arrives in city to oversee the cornerstone laying ceremony for St Patrick’s church at North Avenue and Parallel Street. A large procession, hundreds of Catholic groups, and a 70 voice chorus will participate with Mayor Buckingham and city officials in attendance.

Funeral for Fairfield deputy draws vast Elm City crowd

The funeral for Peter Moclan a Fairfield County deputy sheriff for 15 years drew a large crowd at the Sacred Heart church in Bridgeport with Elk Lodge officers and local officials attending. Separately in New York Moses Sacks a 60 year old Jew salesman was found slain and stuffed in a trunk on Goreck Street, police suspect robbery, the trunk left in a tenement hallway by an expressman.

Driver Faints, Falls From Seat at Stratford Ave Bridge

A wagon driver named Jack Rourke age 30 from Fulton Street fainted on a wagon seat at Stratford avenue bridge at about 9 this morning. He tumbled into the roadway and lay there until pedestrians revived him. He was later carried home in an ambulance.

Wall Street Today Opening Steady Yet Bearish Trade

United Press reports New York June 18 stock market opened steady but bearish with narrow fluctuations and low volume. By 11 am a vigorous protest against railway stocks emerged, Chesapeake Ohio slipping nearly 2 points before partial recovery while government bonds remained unchanged and other bonds dulled.
