Chloroform Home Looting by Burglars At Hallett Street
A liquor dealer's Hallett Street residence was broken into on Christmas morning. Four to five men doped seven sleeping occupants with chloroform and looted $200 jewelry, $32.50 cash, whiskey, and a sterling silver service. They entered through the cellar and forced doors, ransacked every room, and took items from closets and bureau drawers. Bomstein’s trousers yielded $13 and Dinah Bomstein’s purse added $12. Car Victim Refused To Pay Fare In Fatal Trolley Incident
Coroner John J. Phelan opened an inquest into Leonard Malherbe of Stratford who died December 24 after falling from a west bound trolley on Barnum avenue near Mill Hill. Conductor Earl Hill testified Malherbe refused to pay six cents and was ejected from the rear door before tumbling into the path of an east bound car. Hill restrained him but was punched, and Malherbe fell under a fender, not under wheels. Passengers will be summoned as hearings continue.
