Beat Four Fair set for Pelahatchie on October 18 1922

Crowds from Pelahatchie and surrounding areas will gather for the Beat Four Fair featuring school and farm exhibits. Prizes total over one hundred dollars with contests in agriculture live stock poultry embroidery and more. Winners advance to the State Fair in Jackson October 16 21.

Rankin County Teachers Meet Opens 1922 Session

The Rankin County Teachers Association met September 23, 1922 at Brandon High School to elect officers for 1922 25 and set plans for Field Day. Officers chosen included President F M Lowther Vice President Hubert Flurry and Secretary Treasurer Miss Mary Ryburn Hutton. The group approved programs, publicity, beat chairmen and field day arrangements and adjourned to meet October 28 at Brandon High School.

Jerusalem to Have English Language Daily Newspaper

Mrs Gatling of New York to own and edit a new Jerusalem daily in English. She has paid 250000 dollars for a building and presses and equipment are en route from the United States after studying local conditions. The venture marks a major press development in Palestine.

Rankin Co Boy Wins High Honor at University

W H Davis connected with J W Conger earns top mark in American Law Book Co training course. He achieved 88 percent, the highest at the University of Mississippi, earning a Corpus Juris Cy volume for display in the school library. Davis, son of BE G Davis of Pelahatchie, has many Rankin County friends pleased by his success.

Reorganized P T A Elects New Officers

The P T A held its first meeting of the year on Friday September 22 at 3 30 pm to reorganize. New officers elected are Mrs G L Simmons President Mrs W H Surhiee President Mrs DD M Mxecutive Chairman Mrs H P Barksdale Secretary and Miss Berta Pope Treasurer. Committees will be announced next week. The next meeting is set for Friday October 6 with dues required for membership. Members urged to attend or send in dues if absent.

Four Mill Tax or Bridge Bond Issue Voted in County

The Board of Supervisors of Kil county asks voters to choose between issuing 60000 in bridge bonds to fund concrete and steel bridges, shared 12000 per beat, or a four mill tax to cover urgent bridge needs. If bonds pass, a one mill tax will pay interest and retirement.

Sisler Father Taught in Brandon Long Ago

Article recalls George H Sisler’s father teaching in Brandon about twenty five years prior with Inez Cole and W H Barnes as colleagues. It notes Sisler as top 1922 player and first baseman for the St Louis Americans, plus a $100000 memorial fund in Washington DC by the American League to honor great players. The fund’s aim includes buying a school piano.
