A movement argues for child welfare beyond schooling. It urges libraries with quality books, story hours, and a playground to engage minds and bodies. Advocates plan a new school building and phased additions for wholesome education and street safety.
A notice to the Ladies of the W M A of Rankin County records officers elected at a recent meeting. Supt. Mrs. J M Berry of Florence is listed as Superintendent, with Sec-Treas. Mrs. W D Steen, Florence. Rosie Calhoun of Puckett is Personal Service Leader, Ester Massengale of Pelahatchie is Missionary Study Leader, Sam Davis of Leesburg is Young People Leader, and L T Suber of Brandon is Stewardship Leader.
The 32nd Annual Mississippi Division reunion of the United Confederate Veterans will meet in Jackson from October 17 to 19, 1922. Railroads offer one and one half fare round trip with tickets on sale October 16 to 21. delegates are B. F. Mulhellan and P. B. Berry with alternates A. B. Stubblefield and Jerry Chapman. event endorsed by Camp Commander Pat Henry and Adjutant R. S. Maxey.
Beat Three will hold a North Rankin Fair at Pisgah Consolidated School October 12 1922 with agricultural and livestock exhibits canned goods fancy work antiques and miscellaneous entries. Athletic contests horse races and talks are planned with prizes for many contests and a lunch break for a large expected crowd.
The Leesburg Baptist Church hosted the county association gathering with 75 to 100 delegates from about 30 churches totaling around 3,000 members. Since 1893 Rankin County led state organization, and the body will extend sessions and focus on Missions Education and Social Service with an executive committee from each church to plan for next year.
Important matters relative to the work will be discussed. A crying need is to lay the Kingdom Work of all educational denominations more on people’s hearts. The Association will meet at Mizpah five miles south of Pelahaiehie next year.
The Parent-Teachers Association will meet Friday afternoon at 3 30 at the school house. Members are urged to attend with dues to discuss acquiring a new piano. Sheriff Harrison and a prohibition agent raid a Loveless Place area still on Drakes Road. They had trailed Lee Graves and found a 10 gallon milk can two barrels of mash a copper pipe and a charcoal furnace but no liquor. Graves was arrested and brought to town after a second raid on Permeter s store.
The county agent reports an extension to October 15 for nitrate of soda orders and urges immediate purchase. He notes farmers inquire about clover crops for winter and explains soil nitrogen deficiency. Planting crimson clover or red clover and vetches could restore fertility in depleted cotton soils as a winter cover crop.
The October 13 fair at Pelahatchie is shaping up as a big event for the town and surrounding areas. Merchants stock up, farmers showcase crops, housewives plan cooking events, and students train for athletic contests as Beat Four gears up for a county wide celebration.
Next week brings Beat Fairs to Rankin County with events in Johns Pisgah and Pelahatchie. Fairs feature old fiddlers Hog-Calling contest and other contests, while Brandon News shifts to Wednesday print.
Rankin County farmers gathered at the courthouse on Sept 30 to organize a new Rankin County Farm Bureau.
