President Wilson pledges to mobilize nearly 18 million men ages 18 to 45 to register on September 12 for the draft after signing the manpower bill. The proclamation outlines registration hours, exemptions, and labor furloughs to support war production, framing the move as a decisive national duty and a victory of arms.
The notice specifies men must be between eighteen and forty-five on September 12, with exemptions for those already registered under 1917 and 1918 laws, regular army and navy personnel and reserves in service, and certain reserve officers and enlisted men.
War Department appointed registrars to serve at voting precincts in Rankin county on September 12 to register persons aged 18 to 21 and 31 to 45 for military service. Precincts listed include Steen's Creek Star Mt Creek Whites Cleary Plain Brandon Oakdale Holbrook Pearson Fannin Pisgah Red Oak Pelahatchie Cross Roads Shiloh och Polk and Dry Creek with named registrars for each.

A Washington telegram dated August 28 1918 from Mr P M Harding Federal Food Administrator Vicksburg Miss outlines wheat conservation tenets. It states that flours with 20 percent plus substitutes may be sold without substitutes until exhausted pancake and self rising flour may be sold with substitutes if 20 percent or more of substitutes other than rye present consumer limits removed and retailers must still supply proper substitutes. Milling Section will inspect mills to ensure Victory Mixed flours meet substitute percentages. The regulations replace the fifty fifty rule and require dealers to stock and sell wheat flour with at least one of several substitute flours and include a mulled incentive with each sale.
The white free school term will open in September and the colored school term will begin on the first Monday in October October 7 at the local district. Superintendent H H Bullock notes the schedule for the term’s start and school openings.
Brandon gathers for a Beat Fair to be held October 16 with C O Rouse as president and H L McCaskill as secretary. S V Burks and H L McCaskill lead committees on cattle dairy beef horses swine sheep poultry and agriculture, with Mrs Watts Webb chairing the Ladies Department and over $300 in cash prizes funded by local citizens.
