Official county counts show Pat Harrison winning the senatorial race with 66,920 votes, J K Vardaman 43,625, E F Noel 6,727, and BOF 4, among a total of 107,272 ballots cast. The Democratic Committee met in Jackson to canvass returns.

In a France letter dated July 5 1918 from Somewhere in France A E F Mrs C R McKee prints her husband’s note to his wife. He recalls celebrating the 4th with a ball game boxing and dancing for French crowds who were kind and friendly. He notes cold weather sleeping with two quilts and a feather comfort and mentions Rankin county and the need for home support for victory and sacrifice. He describes not being allowed to name English places but passing through the country on foot and hopes for letters from home while asking about crops and appealing for understanding of the war effort.
