New Game Law Creates State Property of Wildlife

The new act designates all wild game, birds and animals in the state as property of the state effective October 1. It lists seasons and penalties, bans shipping game out of state, requires licenses for non residents, and empowers a four year warden with deputies to enforce the act and seize contraband game.

Hull Awarded Contract For 26 Foot Court House Annex

The board of supervisors awarded the $7,111 contract for a 26 foot annex to the courthouse to H O Hull of Jackson as the lowest bidder. Plans by Payne of Jackson will supervise the building, fireproofing county books rooms, with completion aimed in 12 to 15 weeks.

Rail order cuts Mississippi rail stops and sets new rates

The Mississippi railroad commission adopted an order allowing the Alabama and Vicksburg railway to remove several stops including Forest, Brandon, Mehan Junction, Chunkey, Lawrence, and South State street in Jackson with the new schedule. It also issues a maximum rate of 389 cents per 100 pounds for machinery from Hattiesburg to local points and 67 cents per 100 for less than carload shipments, with similar rates from all Mississippi points to Hattiesburg. Secondhand machinery to be shipped at two thirds of the above rate. The piece also notes health claims about kidneys and liver, a prize advertisement for Prickly Ash Bitters, and mentions Geo. S. Aldrich of St. Louis investing in Rankin county timber lands.
