Proceedings of the County Supervisors November Session

The Board met November 7 with full membership. Claims were settled or continued and bids ordered for a Campbell's Creek bridge in Beat 5. Desks for East school, teaching fees, and various road and jail expenses were approved or postponed, with items carried to December and into subsequent pages.

Fire destroys Magee cotton warehouse and two box cars

A large fire swept the Merchants cotton warehouse in Magee early Sunday destroying 920 bales of cotton. Two nearby box cars loaded with freight were burned. Insurance covers about 70,000 dollars. Origin of the blaze is unknown. Magee has suffered major fires in recent years. In other items, Hon. A G Norrell of Florence was named judge advocate general of the Mississippi division United Confederate Veterans for the coming year. A stray or stolen notice seeks a large dark bay mare from Brandon, with rewards offered.

Aberdeen Negro Charged With Assault Move To Protective custody

At one o'clock this morning Aberdeen Mississippi officers arrived with a negro named Howell from Tupelo. He faced charges of an unsuccessful attempt to assault a young telephone operator at Baldwin. He denied guilt but earlier admitted he was the assailant and was taken to safety. A mob was feared as he was placed in the county jail in Aberdeen.

Brother of man shot by officers to prosecute

Horace McGregor, brother of E. A. McGregor who was shot while escaping, has hired counsel and will prosecute Policemen Ducksworth and Deputy Sheriff Rawls. The grand jury meets Monday with likely indictment effort. McGregor’s injuries are grave with little hope of recovery. A batch of new post cards arrived at Brandon Drug Co.

Dulaney Gse Gleaned For Trial In Bilbo Case

Jackson Mississippi November 7 The famed case state versus L C Dulaney charged with bribery of State Senator Theo Bilbo during the senatorial contest will be called for trial at Yazoo City on Monday November 21 rather than the previously announced week later. Attorneys for the defense list witnesses and seek to show Dulaney’s good character while suggesting Bilbo’s unfitness. Also notes a separate dispatch from Natchez about E G Rhodes of L Argent La finishing a large barn, crop conditions, sugar cane, and a new sugar mill under construction. A railroad accident near a depot damages track but does not halt nearby traffic.

Fifteen Cars Wrecked Near Brooksville

A through freight on the M and Q railroad southbound toward Brooksville wrecked fifteen cars on the northern edge of town. The derailed cars carried shelled corn meat flour and other goods including explosives, with damage from a broken running gear causing parts to drag. The incident occurred November 6 in Brooksville Mississippi and involves local railroad operations and subsequent investigations.

Tragic Sequel to Elopement of 75 Year Old Farmer

Dresden, Nov 7. Thomas Gaskins 75 years old pursued Lizzie McDaniel 17, after his wife’s death. He shot after being repulsed, carried her 14 miles to wed, stabbed himself when pursued by a sheriff, and lies between life and death. Lizzie’s parents hold a will giving her all Gaskins possessions. he is described as a wealthy farmer. Continued.
