Board of supervisors convened its January session Monday with notable business planned and road supervisor appointments to be made. Circuit Court opened Monday and is expected to run about three weeks. no major trials have occurred yet.
Ad copy promotes Foley’s Honey and Tar cough remedy with Bee Hive branding. Mentions Bran don Drug Go and Mr. Boyd Brown of Jackson visiting sister Mrs. W. S. Creek south of Bran don for Tuesday.
Florence resident Mr. T. KB. Therrell serves in an official city capacity as recorded by court proceedings.
The Rankin County Advertiser will debut as an eight page six column paper under editor and proprietor G. D. M. Mayers. An old newspaper man, Mayers is expected to bring a live and newsy organ to readers.
Aretomic in action, quick in results. Mary C Abbott of Wolfeboro New Hampshire touts Foley Kidney Pills for rheumatism linked to uric acid. She reports rapid relief after three days, saying pains vanished and mobility returned. Sold by Brandon Drug Co.
The Masonic Judge led a call meeting last week with Mr. J. D. Foster of Edwards presiding. Several candidates were received and the gathering proved very interesting and instructive for attendees. Drs. Shotts and Kersh of Pela hatchie were Brandon visitors this week.
The first gun in the United States senatorial campaign was fired when Hon. C. H. Alexander of Jackson spoke to a crowded Rankin County hall. He hailed Senator A. J. McLaurin and urged voters to judge by measures and men, warning that large corporations threaten democracy and calling for tariff reform and trust suppression. He noted campaign finance issues and stressed government by the people over powerful interests.
In a Jackson address Mr. Alexander denounced corporate power and railroad practices. He urged regulation to curb discrimination in cotton rates, expose overvaluation of railroad capital, and demand fair taxation. He argued Mississippi deserves a just share of national resources and opposed being aligned with corporations.
Local and general news recounts a Christmas tragedy in Florence where a young girl died from burns. The installment of Evening Star Lodge officers on December 27 is noted along with personnel changes and holiday visits.
