BOB WILSON argues against modern wedding ceremonies and the double ring practice. He questions traditions such as 50 50 marriage propaganda and who gives away the bride, noting changes in obedience language and the role of the father.
Mary Merwin and Mrs. Smith attended an Avon event at the Brownwood Hotel on Wednesday afternoon. Hostess Mrs. Sidney Ellis, district manager of Abilene, led the gathering. Merwin and Smith have worked with Avon Company for over twenty years in district roles.
Beatrice Hernandez a two year old Brady girl died when a parked 1953 Plymouth rolled backward from a inclined driveway. She was playing with siblings Junior and Lupe Valencia near the family home on the north side. Beatrice died at Medical and Surgical Hospital after a fall under the front wheel. Funeral plans are at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Brady volunteers prepare to host the Hill Country Firemen's Association fall convention with a morning business meeting at Brady High School, pumper races in the afternoon, and a banquet at First Christian Church. The event marks Brady hosting since 1954 and includes delegates from 16 towns led by Earl Ashley of Junction.
About 100 teachers are expected Saturday for a Leaders Workshop for District 11 of the Texas State Teachers Association. The meeting at 9:50 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. will be at Braddy High School with officers from local units and consultants from TSTA in Austin. E. W. Scott of Coleman High is district president. D. E. Edwards of Lohn is McCulloch County unit president and T. Wood of Melvin is vice president.
Brady Lampasas junior high team travels to Coleman Cherokee Rochelle Melvin and Robert Lee LORN 4 1 for Friday night football in Bulldog Stadium. The schedule lists Miles on Tuesday September 29 with BRADY as host.
Twelve directors were elected Tuesday night to form the McCulloch County Livestock Association. Frank Corder is president, Hubert Moseley vice president, Sam McAnally secretary treasurer. The group adopted a constitution and approved about 4000 dollars in funds from the old Brady Fair Association to continue the fair’s public purpose.
County ASC re elected Thurs day afternoon at the convention. The renamed committee administers the federal farm program. Members include Ben Hodges chairman, FE. 0. Henderson vice chairman, Earl Dahlberg member, Dana Henderson first alternate, Leon Barton second alternate. Delegates Edward Lyckman John W. Brown and R. 8. Moseley.
In Mc Culloch County old timers report more rattlesnakes than in years with many killed daily in rural areas. Kurt Otte, 12, killed a 50 inch rattler with five rattles in his backyard at 201 West Lith Street on Wednesday night.
Paul Marable of Abilene spoke to Brady High School students on free enterprise versus socialism. The talk opened a series by the local Chamber of Commerce Public Relations Committee led by Rev. Watcon and Rev. Pinkerton. Frank Corder introduced him as WTCC district VP.

Brady coaches and players warn of Coleman strong defense as the Bulldogs aim for a third win. Coleman has topped Stephenville and routed others while boasting a stingy last two games. Key Brady players Bracy and Quinn injured but progressing as they prepare to face Thomas Casey and Dale Greaves.
The Brady Lions Club announces its annual fall Broom Sale next Wednesday September 50. Lions will drive through town from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. selling brooms mops brushes mats and aprons from the plaza in front of Broad Mercantile Co. Proceeds support a good cause and salesmen will offer wares at customers' doors Wednesday afternoon.
McCulloch County gins press ahead as harvest starts. Pearson gin in Brady reports 172 bales on Thursday, while T A Key Gin in Brady adds 69 bales that afternoon. Lohn gin processes 25 bales and O C Utsey’s in Fife reports 40. Doole gin not yet available. Key gin to close Sat Mon Tue for Continental lint cleaner installation, reopening Tuesday morning.
Brady High School FFA officers met to discuss a trip to the Dallas Fair and the initiation of freshmen members. They also considered selling remaining rural directories by including a prefix list of phone numbers for surrounding towns. The group will continue Tuesday morning meetings and biweekly 7 p.m. regular sessions.
